Week of Feb 16-19

First let me offer college shouts to Siobahn Rodriguez who was accepted into the music program at UGA. Hooray! We hope to hear about a lot more UGA acceptances this week.

Curriculum for the week

Drama 1
You have really upped your game lately. Keep up the good work.
Tuesday: we will perform our pieces as discussed on Friday with the emphasis on dynamic beats
Weds: watch these pieces on video and do a self assessment
Thursday: receive notes from me and your classmates
Friday: Begin individualized coaching and continue into emotional connection exercises.

Drama 3
With class cut short on Friday, we did not have time to see the corrected pitch builds, so we will begin with that this week.
Tues: Corrected pitch builds including two sections back to back and a major shift.
Weds: Watch on video and do a self assessment while teacher begins one on ones with the translation.
Thursday: Translations continue. English to old English exercise
Friday: Shakespeare and Company emotional connection exercises.

On a sad note
Cobb County Drama lost a dear member of our tribe this weekend. Our hearts go out to the Kennesaw Mountain High School Drama Department. Ed Deavers, who has long been a faculty member there, passed away Friday. He was a beloved colleague, friend and teacher. He was a tenacious advocate of the arts and a fellow Shakespeare fanatic.

We continue to send our support to the math department right here at PHS after the loss of our own beloved Ms Wilburn.

It has moved me beyond belief to see the outpouring of memories, thoughts and reflections on these two wonderful educators after their passing. Their current and former students have started facebook pages that have hundreds and hundreds of members each, expressing their feelings on their life and their teaching. It just reminds me, once again, that even when it looks like you student types are not paying attention, you are.

Drama 1- A quick snowy frolick

I call that joy!

Week of Feb 8-12

Drama 1 is working on contemporary monologues all this week. After our daily dynamics, we will begin with line checks and talking about appropriate pre rehearsal work. We will follow this discussion with several exercises designed to create a deeper emotional connection to the piece, more dynamics in the piece and an overall better product. We will end the week with our first round of performances on these pieces.

Drama 3 is also working on monologues, but theirs are classical. The line checks were NOT great last week, so I am hoping that today's are better. We will also be discussion what true pre-rehearsal work means. We will follow with a series of exercises designed to make classical text more connected and meaningful to contemporary audiences.

I also want to give a shout out to Cory Escobar who was accepted at OCU this weekend with a hearty scholarship. Here he is at the top to the Sear's tower in Chicago "falling" though space and time toward college.

D3 pictures round 1

We need to take them again, because they are a bit blurry and we are missing someone, but here is the first draft of the d3 pics.

Swtich Time

We are back from Chicago and the unifeds are complete. The seniors did really well and I am insanely proud of them.

Now it is time to turn my attention to the next generation. This week marks the switching of classes for Mr. Adams and I. I will take over D1 and D3 and D 2 and D4 will switch to his professorial reign.

Both D1 and D3 are beginning with monologues. Monologues were to be memorized today and fully analyzed. We will finish out the week with text analysis and line checks on theses pieces.
