Some Updates and Deadlines

Raisin
We will audition for the poetry section of A Raisin in the Sun this week in 5th period. You will need to prepare one of the poems and perform it from memory. These are posted over in the documents desk. We will be looking for the coloring and use of the language that we covered in class last week.

Some schedule specifics; please note on Wednesday of this week you will be release at 6:15 rather then 7. Please arrange for rides. Also of note, this Saturday's rehearsal is an all day affair. We will arrive at 9 and stay until 6.

Looking for the rest of the rehearsal schedule for Raisin? Follow the link to my typepad blog. It is posted there.

Drama 4
Your college info worksheets and presentations are due today. We will be watching those for the next few days. We will gear up with some dynamics, just to get your body moving again.

A BIG REMINDER!!!! Your choice of contemporary monologue is due to me on Friday. Seniors, you will need two. I said that you could turn the second in after the long weekend, but everyone must have one by this Friday. Cut to two minutes and ready to go. (It does not need to be memorized yet.)

Drama 2
2 deadlines for you. The line check on the first half of the self written scene is today. We will check the second half on Wednesday.

Tuesday

In D4 we will continue our discussion of type and move forward on our college choices. We will also have a chance to view our monologues from the start of the year so we can have a chance to see what auditors see.

If you are out, please pull up the college info worksheet from the D4 sidebar. You will need to begin work on this as they are due on Thursday. You may use any college you are interested in to complete it.

In D2 we are still working on our self written scenes. We hope to get those finished and revised by Thursday and ready to start blocking.

The Raisin read through was great fun and we are all excited to get to work with Mr. Adams' blocking today.

Monday mania

Hi all:

In D4 we are facing the realities of a life in the theater, headshots, actor type, casting and of course...college. We will explore the difference between BFA and BA today and students will begin to refine their college choices.

In D2 we are continuing to be our own playwrights. First drafts of scenes will be presented tomorrow, we will edit them and then stage them as the week continues.

Raisin is cast. The audtion process was amazing. We were so excited by the quality of work we saw. Please do not be too discouraged if you did not make this play. It takes time to make a Drama show at the Brook. Students who were not cast are still being considered for the poetry excerpts between the scens. Auditions for that will occur later this week.
Rehearsals for the central cast begin today. Here is the schedule for the remainder of the week.

Friday August 21st

Forgive my delay in posting, I was out Weds and part of Thursday with sick kiddies of my own.

We have been working on Raisin in the Sun auditions in Drama 4 and Drama 2. The competition has been fierce. We are just thrilled by the level of work the students are delivering. We are really excited by what the rest of the year holds.

D4 will have the college info worksheets due on Tuesday of next week. (They are posted on the documents desk). If you have not already taken the SAT's and the ACT's you better get on that. If you are sitting out extra-cirriculars this season, think about using the extra time by signing up for an SAT prep class.

D2 is working on writing their own scenes. The first read of those will be on Monday.

Monologue Madness

D4 looked at 20 monologues each today and got a sense of how their college auditors will feel.

D2 began work on writing their own scenes. We talked about things that will challenge us as actors. We are writing scenes that will target those very things.

Raisin in the Sun first rounds were this evenings. Callbacks will be posted in the morning and we will do cold readings during Drama classes tomorrow.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to another fabulous year at the Brook. We have a great year planned in Drama.

Our first show of the season is the important and incredibly moving A Raisin in the Sun. Mr. Adams and I will be co-directing. We are excited to get to dig into this great work of theater. Auditions are on Monday August 17th after school. The monologues for this audition are available right here on the brand new blog over in the side bar the" Documents Desk". The breakdown for this show is as follows; four African American women, six African American men and one white male. (The white male role may be doubled.) We will also have other students performing poetry in the transitions. It is an exciting undertaking to be sure.

Our spring show will make history as our first ever Chekov at the Brook. We are very excited to tackle The Three Sisters. It is a moving story with some AP acting and best of all-TONS of roles!

We are also excited to see how our newly re-leveled acting classes work. Just a reminder, D1 is now called Intro and then the numbers go up from there.

Be ready with your monologues as within the first two days of school you'll be headed on stage for your re-jury. Your placement will be examined at that time to assure that it is accurate based on your growth (or lack of growth) over the summer.

See you Monday!

Ms. G
